If you want to improve confidence you have to know that it has as much to do with attitude aside from ability.
I've known many people who, while they lacked aptitude in a specific field, absolutely 'oozed' confidence! I'm not speaking about bragging about how good they are at tennis, or singing, or public speaking - when actually they're not. I'm talking about feeling okay about not being skilled in these fields and doing them anyway!
A few things are just not necessary enough to worry about - however we do just the same and create unnecessary stress for ourselves. Regardless of whether you fall over making an attempt to ice-skate, make a hash of cooking, be unsuccessful at DIY or just worry that you may not be good at using a computer in case you tried it, so you don't - does it really matter?
Of course there are some things that are necessary! Being great at your profession is one of them; creating good relationships is another. In these situations you need to find certain strategies to help you.
What building selfconfidence boils down to is removing that voice in your brain that tells you that you'll be unsuccessful if you try, that you're no good at this sort of thing, that you're going to make a fool of yourself - or whatever the particular message is that rocks your confidence.
Those messages don't really tell the truth:
They could have been told to you, previously, by other people who had their own agenda. Generally people will say things to put you down so they would feel better about themselves!
They may have been your interpretation of what somebody said. Typically what we hear just isn't what is meant, so when I say "You're not very good at sports", you might hear that as a criticism or someone saying "You're a failure!"
They may be based on a unique experience you had that prompted you to write that message inside your head yourself. Let's say you tried making a bookcase once however it didn't look very good when you finished it. Therefore, in your mind you believe you're no good at woodwork and would never try again. However you could have acknowledged that this wasn't too bad for your first try and that you'd probably get better with experience.
Your attitude is the thing that will carry you to triumph, or defeat you before you even start.
When you don't believe you are able to do it - chances are extremely high that you won't. And if you believe all the negative messages from the past, you might as well construct a brick wall between you and your objectives. (And don't forget, you fail 100% of the opportunities you do not even go for!)
But when you believe you can do it, if you can imagine yourself in your mind doing it, odds are extremely strong that you will succeed!
There's a saying: "Change the way in which you look at things and the things you look at will change." (The half full - half empty glass is an instance of this!)
But you don't have to do this on your own, and confidence coaching will allow you to to find other ways of looking at things.
